Credit Card can be a double-edged sword. Its extreme ease of use is also one of the main reasons why credit card and identity theft is so prevalent these days. When mixed with neglect and ineptness, this ease of use is a surefire way to unauthorized credit card charges. Here are some tips that will help you keep your credit card safe.

Keep the number secret. It may be an obvious tip, but you have no idea how many cards have been compromised as a result of telling just one trusted friend or family member when its being used in credit card machine.

Don’t bring all of your cards all the time. There is no reason to bring every card you own everywhere. This will only make the laws of probability work against you in terms of lost or stolen credit cards. As an added benefit, not bringing all of your cards will help curb unnecessary spending your merchant account.

Read every line on your statement. Credit Card statements can be very confusing to normal people, and there’s a chance you may miss a fraudulent use in your statement and not do anything about it until it’s too late.

Pick up your mail regularly. A credit card statement in the mail is one of the easiest places for a thief to get sensitive information about you. Don’t make things easier for them.
Consider getting a credit monitoring service. Not even excessive paranoia about your credit card details will help if someone managed to open a credit card in your name.
